The lovely Talia Tabin, a recent Dinner Party participant and girl crush, recently performed her one woman show, I’m Sorry for My Loss, for Dinner Partiers and other friends. After Talia’s older brother tragically died at the age of 20, her family began to adjust to life without Jake. Eight years later, Talia reflects on what that experience was like — driving home from the mall and hearing the news, becoming convinced that Jake’s soul had occupied the body of a neighborhood cat, and learning how to keep Jake’s memory alive as life, as it tends to do, moved on.
Talia captured the intensity, the subtleties, and the undeniable humor that comes along with loss, and gave the audience — sprawled on pillows and rugs around our living room — an opportunity to connect with one another, and when the tables turned at the end of the evening, the inspiration to share their own memories and turning point moments. A one woman show turned into a collection 25 authors strong.
